Our Commercial Attache in San Francisco, Ebru Gülsoy was kind of enough to join us on last Tuesday for a chat about the new investment regulations by the TR Ministry of Economics. The event took place at the offices of Bahcesehir University Silicon Valley and Starters Lab in San Mateo. The discussion was moderated by TABC's President Efe Orhun. After a brief introduction Mrs. Gülsoy gave some recent statistics about the current state of the economy and went onto explain the new investment support program initiated by her ministry.

The program is reminiscent of the the regional development centers of California; investors that invest in the underprivileged areas are given major tax breaks, unlike California's program investors are not required to create jobs in the localities they invest in or get residency in Turkey. The investment support program is mainly geared toward manufacturing type businesses and does not provide entrepreneurial support in the sense we understand in Silicon Valley; Ministry of Technology and Industry has numerous programs to support technology entrepreneurs.
