TABC to Participate in International Business Expo
02/21/2013

Today TABC President Efe Orhun spoke to a group of MBA students who are taking a class on International Business, the subject of the talk was "Start-up/Investment Scene and Doing Business in Turkey". In his hour long presentation Mr. Orhun touched on topics like - current Internet market statistics; the current start-up bubble in Turkey, how the start-ups and investors operate and what type of industries are more attractive in the start-up realm and offered observations on what could be done differently and on what opportunities exist in the Turkish start-up market. He also talked about start-up success stories that recently came out of Turkey such as Trendyol, Markafoni, GittiGidiyor, Yemek Sepeti, Nokta, Grupanya and a few others. In addition, he compared them to the innovative companies coming out of entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley's Turkish-American community such as Udemy, WallIt, Koding.com, CivicSolar and others.

He covered  the VC & PE Investment Scene in the Turkish market from idea conception to expansion and sources of funding available in each stage from foreign and domestic players. In closing, Mr. Orhun touched on a few pointers on culture and doing business in Turkey. Students were very engaged in the discussion and asked perceptive questions about doing business in Turkey and the region. The students will travel to Turkey at the end of March to experience Turkey for themselves and meet with Turkish companies.
We thank  our Honorary Consul General Bonnie Joy Kaslan and the Class Instructor Richard George for providing this opportunity for TABC.
